What is a Local Place Plan?

As a group, we are aware that people may not know what local place plans are, or why they matter.

LPP's are collaborative and community-led documents that create a community vision for their future. They were introduced by the Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 and it is the right of the community to produce their own plan, as part of the new Scottish planning system.

They include, amongst other things, suggestions from communities about how land is developed and used within their local area and can describe the types of changes that local people want to see and be taken into account.

This may include things like pinpointing areas, where more housing can be built, protecting the town against parking charges, and improving our public transport services.

The steering group who are compiling the LPP for Castle Douglas are made up of various local people, who volunteer their time and represent the Castle Douglas Community Council, Castle Douglas Development Forum, Clain Cainines local business owner, and retired Dumfries and Galloway Council employee.

As a group, we really want as much input as possible from local residents about what matters to them and what they see as the main strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to Castle Douglas at present, and also in the future.

This is why we need your help!
